The Captain's Gala Menu on the Disney Fantasy

On the last evening of our sailing on the Fantasy we were back at Royal Court to enjoy the fanciest of the main dining room menus, the Captain’s Gala. This is the menu that features dishes like lobster tail, venison, and chocolate lava cake. We’re not very fancy people, but we do love slightly fancy flavors, so we love this menu.

The meal begins, as all Disney Cruise Line dinners begin, with bread service. The Captain’s Gala Menu features a delicious Sourdough Bread with a sweet Roasted Red Pepper Dip. This is by far my favorite of all of the bread service dipping sauces. We always end up asking for more. It pairs perfectly with the sourdough, but it is also really good with the regular rolls that are in the bread basket as well.

When it came time for appetizers we enjoyed the Aged Prosciutto and the Lightly Breaded Bake Eggplant. The delicious salty Italian ham is served with Parmesan cheese, roasted garlic, and sun-dried tomatoes. It all pairs so well together, and the best way to eat it is to get a little bit of everything in each bite. We achieved this by dividing up the meat and cheese, and wrapping strips of prosciutto around cheese, tomato and garlic. Yum!

If you like eggplant you’ll like the Lightly Breaded Baked Eggplant. Tender eggplant, coated in crispy bread crumbs that provide a create crunch, is served topped with sweet ricotta and Mozzarella, a traditional tomato sauce, and drizzled with aged balsamic. It is truly a satisfying dish – I could easily eat a larger portion of this as an entrée.

Speaking of entrees, we enjoyed the Fettuccine with Parmesan Crusted Chicken and the Pan-Seared Venison Medallions. Beautifully salty, crisp on the outside, moist on the inside chicken crusted in Parmesan cheese is served with sweet peppers and mushrooms over fettuccine pasta tossed with a cheddar cheese sauce. The best way to eat this dish is to get a little bit of the chicken, a piece of pepper and mushroom, and a bit of pasta in each bite. The pairing is delicious. If you like pasta, and you like cheese, you’ll like this dish. Some people don’t like venison because they claim that it tastes “game-y”. We’re big fans to game meats, and we’re also big fans of this venison dish. Tender pan-seared venison medallions pair nicely with the port wine and juniper reduction that they are served with. The dish comes with a delicious marinated red cabbage and crispy potato croquettes. A little bit of the venison with a little bit of the cabbage in each bit is my favorite way to eat this dish! The croquettes also go nicely with the cabbage and the juniper reduction.

Bella enjoyed the Kid’s Turkey Meatloaf. Two rounds of moist, flavorful turkey meatloaf served with a slightly sweet carrot ketchup – yum! It came served with steamed veggies (zucchini, carrot, broccoli, and cauliflower), and a fruit cup (honeydew, watermelon, cantaloupe, and grapes.) She really enjoyed the dish. We do not have a photo of what Christian ate on this evening which tells me that he most likely had pizza which has been covered in previous posts.

We finished the meal with Chocolate Lava Cake and Old Fashioned Apple Pie. Just thinking about the lava cake makes me hungry. Rich, decadent, chocolate cake with a melty chocolate center is drenched in a rich chocolate sauce and served with vanilla ice cream. This is another one of those warm and cold pairing desserts which we love, and the combination of chocolate cake and sauce with the vanilla is amazing. Our assistant server brought us a second scoop of ice cream to add to it – she knew us so well! The Apple Pie is also delicious. All of the best apple pies have top and bottom crusts – and this one does! Flaky, buttery crust is around sweet, cinnamon apple filling. It is served with vanilla ice cream – a perfect pairing – and caramel drizzle. Caramel, and apples, and ice cream – yum! It’s such a good dish.

We really enjoyed everything we ordered from the Captain’s Gala menu and can’t wait to enjoy this menu again on our upcoming cruise on the Disney Wonder in February.

Have you tried this menu? What’s your favorite dish?!
