Dinner and a Show at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater

When I was growing up I was lucky enough to live about thirty minutes from a drive-in movie “theater.” We went a fair amount as a kid, even more as a teenager, and as an adult in California we went even more! I loved being able to see and talk during movies, and the best part was the ability to bring my own snacks! Seeing movies under the stars was always a lot of fun, and so is eating at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

When you walk up to Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater you’re met with a marquee and sign that make you feel as though you’re walking into a movie theater. Off to the side there is also a car prop where you can take photos! If you arrive a little early for a reservation you may just be offered a small cup of popcorn – yum!

When you make your way inside you’ll see various movie props, and as you get closer to being seated you’ll see signs to dim your headlights. The seating area here is mostly filled with cars – you are at the drive-in after all! Most cars have three rows of seats with tables. There are some round picnic style tables are the back of the restaurant, by the snack bar, as well. The very front of the seating area features of movie screen that shows short film clips and commercials from the 1950s. It really is like being at a drive-in movie.

Shortly after you’re seated your carhop will be by to take your order.

On our most recent trip we were using the Plus Dining Plan, which meant that we each got a beverage, an entrée, and a dessert for our meal at table service restaurants. Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater we used our dining credits for some delicious eats – let’s talk about them!

We started our meal with a Vanilla Milkshake and an Oreo Milkshake. We love a good milkshake, and these definitely fell into that category. Thick, creamy shakes topped with whipped cream. The Oreo was especially delicious.

Christian enjoyed the Kid’s Burger with Fries. A flavorful burger topped with American cheese and served with crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, French Fries.

We also enjoyed the Drive-In BBQ Burger and the Chicken Pasta. The burger, seasoned with BBQ spice, is topped with housemade BBQ sauce, crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, crispy onions, fried jalapenos, and is serve on a buttery brioche bun. All of the flavors pair nicely together. It is truly a tasty burger. It was served with seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft in the inside French Fries.

The Chicken Pasta was also quite good.  A large portion of penne pasta is tossed with baby kale, red bell peppers, zucchini, and a tangy smoked tomato four-cheese cream sauce. It is delicious.

On this particular evening we ordered our dessert to go. We ordered the Housemade Candy Bar and the Lemon Cheesecake with Blueberry Compote. Both desserts were delicious, even when we enjoyed them as part of breakfast the next day! If you like chocolate you’ll like the Housemade Candy Bar. A rich, creamy cookies and cream mousse is covered in a rich chocolate ganache is topped with mini Oreos, and is drizzled with chocolate sauce. It’s rich, it’s chocolatey – it’s making me hungry just thinking about it.

The Lemon Cheesecake is light and creamy and has just the right amount of lemon flavor. It is served with a sweet blueberry compote – the combination of lemon and blueberry is so good!

We’ve enjoyed meals at Sci-Fi Dine-In four times and we’ve enjoyed each and every one of them. We highly recommend dining “under the stars” during your next trip to Hollywood Studios.
