Enjoy a Delicious Meal at The Diamond Horseshoe
On
the last evening of our most recent trip to Disney World we had our last meal
together with all of the family that was on our trip with us at The Diamond
Horseshoe.
This
was the second time that Christian and I dined here, but the first time since
the menu overhaul. We enjoyed our first meal here in September 2017 and were
excited to try it again on this past trip.
The
Diamond Horseshoe is a laid back, family-style table service restaurant in the
Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square. You’ll find it right next to another one of our
dinner favorites, Liberty Tree Tavern.
While
Liberty Tree Tavern has a colonial feel to it, The Diamond Horseshoe has a
western feel, like the rest of Frontierland, which you’ll find right next door.
The lunch time menu, like Liberty Tree Tavern, is a la carte, and dinner is
served family-style.
What
does that mean? Dinner has a set menu and platters of the menu items are
brought to the table for each member of you dining party to take as much or as
little of everything as they would like. It also means that everything is “all
you care to enjoy!” If you really love a certain item you can ask for more and
your server will be more than happy to bring it out for you!
The
dinner menu, like the restaurant, has a barbecue, Western flair to it. On our
visit in February we enjoyed the following items.
A
Salad with a variety of greens,
cucumber, red onion, cherry tomatoes, and a creamy peppercorn dressing was
brought to the table along with Cornbread
and jalapeno butter. We’re not big jalapeno fans, because of the flavor, not
because of the heat. The sweetness of the bread paired well with the spice of
the butter.
The
main course consisted of Carved Beef
Brisket, Citrus-marinated Chicken, Barbecued Pulled Pork, Smoked Sausage,
Macaroni & Cheese, Seasonal Vegetables (Broccoli during our meal), Harvest
Baked Beans, Creamy Coleslaw. The meats were tender, flavorful, and
bountiful! The pulled pork and smoked sausage were my favorite!
The
sides were all quite good and paired well with all of the meats! You know me, I
like to put a little bit of a side dish with each bite of meat and there was
not a bad combination among the meats and sides at this meal.
The meal ended with a Dessert Trio. During our
dining experience the trio included Buttermilk-Chocolate
Cake, Apple Cobbler, and Layered Cheesecake (Cranberry). The chocolate cake
was good – I love chocolate cake, however it was a bit plain. It was topped
with powdered sugar, but I think that a bit of whipped cream or some vanilla
ice cream would have taken the care to the next level. The Layered Cheesecake
was a Cranberry Cheesecake that was like a parfait and served in a tall glass
rather than as a slice. It was good, the sweetness of the cheesecake layers
went well with the tartness of the cranberries. As a cranberry fan it was good,
especially since three of us split it. It would have been too tart for one
person to finish the whole thing. The Apple Cobbler was more of an apple tart,
but it may have been the best part of the entire meal! A buttery, flaky pastry tart-shell
like crust filled with tender cinnamon-spice apples, topped with whipped cream.
We were at two tables for the meal because of the size of our party – so the
three of us that were left at our table when dessert came finished out apple
tart and I ate the crust from the second table’s dessert platter. It was that
good!
Overall
we had a delicious, filling meal at the Diamond Horseshoe. The food was good,
and it was a great place to get out of the sun and to rest our feet during our
busy day at Magic Kingdom. Since our trip the menu items have changed slightly,
but menu changes are always possible! We recommend The Diamond Horseshoe if you
like good food and lots of it.
