Be Our Guest Review (Dinner)

Be Our Guest, located in the New Fantasyland section of Magic Kingdom, is the newest restaurant in Magic Kingdom. The Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant opened in 2012 with the first part of the New Fantasyland expansion. Although it has been open for two and a half years it is still one of the hardest reservations to score.

Currently, Be Our Guest serves lunch and dinner; there are rumors though that breakfast may be served in the future. Lunch is a Quick-Service option, and starting on the 25th you will be able to make Advance Dining Reservations for your counter-service meal. After the lunch rush Beast’s castle is transformed into a table service restaurant.

So, come join us as we tell you of our experiences in the Beast’s castle. We dined here for both lunch and dinner, but today we’ll be focusing on dinner.

The check-in desk for Be Our Guest is at the beginning of the bridge by the stroller parking, once you have checked in and received your pager you will make your way onto the bridge to await your dinner summons.

Shortly after your pager begins to buzz and light up you will be greeted by a member of the Beast’s staff carrying Lumiere. From here you will be shown to your table.

There are three dining rooms; the West Wing, the Rose Gallery, and the main dining room. The West Wing houses a portrait of the Beast and the rose which over the course of the evening loses its petals. If you’re seated here be sure to keep an eye on the portrait; it changes between the Beast and the prince. Every so often thunder does sound in this room and the lighting is lower than in the other two rooms. My guess is that we were not seated in this room because we had Christian with us and the dark lighting and loud noises and a baby would have been a bad combination.

The Rose Gallery houses a massive music box topped with Belle and the Beast. We sat here for lunch.
The main dining room, where we were seated for dinner is spacious, has lovely chandeliers, and if you look closely you can see snow falling behind the windows. Also, be sure to look up at the ceiling. This room, and the entire restaurant can get really loud because of the incredibly high ceilings, but it is worth it.

Once you are seated your server will ask if you are on a Disney dining plan and will go over the menu with you. Now, let’s take a look at food.

Food

To start we had bowls of French Onion Soup and Potato Leek Soup.  The French Onion Soup – Very Cheesy!!!! The broth was very delicious, it had a good onion flavor but was not overpowering. On the top was a thick layer of Gruyère cheese which was perfectly browned. The bread inside perfectly absorbed the broth beautifully. What makes this soup different from every other French onion soup is that it is vegetarian. The broth, unlike in other versions of this soup, is not beef based.

The Potato Leek Soup had great potato and leek flavor and was incredibly creamy.

When it came time for entrees we had the Grilled Strip Steak and the Herb-Crusted Lamb.

The Grilled Strip Steak – Ours was cooked Med-Rare as requested. Temperature was perfect and the steak cut easily. The taste was delicious, it melted in your mouth and the garlic herb butter that was on top made the steak richer. The veggies were long green beans sautéed with the garlic butter. The Pommes Frites were served with a truffle salt on top and a truffle mayonnaise dipping sauce. The dipping sauce was good on its own, however the pommes frites had a little too much salt for me and in my opinion made them almost inedible. This could be because we don’t put much salt on our food at home. If you like salt, then you’ll like these fries.

The Herb-Crusted Lamb, the second most expensive item on the menu, was delicious. The chef likes to cook the lamb to med-rare, which was not something we’re used to, but we gave it a try. You could ask for it to be cooked longer, and our server asked me what temperature we wanted. The lamb was moist and delicious. Not at all “gamey”. The stone-ground mustard demi-glace that accompanied the lamb went well with the meat and helped to cut through the meaty-ness. The lamb was served with broccolini and buttery celery root puree—both delicious.

When it came time for dessert we split the Grey Stuff and the Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake.

Your server will bring you a dessert menu so that you can begin your decision, but once you are ready for dessert your server will bring the dessert cart to your table so that you can see the choices. After you pick your dessert your server will serve it up.

The Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake had a great strawberry flavor and the cream cheese frosting rounded it out quite well. It’s also topped with a strawberry. The Grey Stuff, which really is delicious, is a chocolate mousse type texture and is served on top of a crispy “brownie”. Chocolate-y and delicious.

On this particular evening the master was in, so we were invited to his study to meet him.

Overall
The reservation is hard to get, the restaurant its self is loud, but the food is delicious. Overall I say go for it.
