Step 2: Where to stay?

Where do you want to stay?
The first decision that needs to me made in this step is whether you want to stay on or off-site?

There are definite advantages to staying onsite at a Disney owned hotel. These include access to the parks during Extra Magic Hours, the ability to purchase the dining plan, and free transportation. Anyone can use Disney transportation, even those staying offsite. However if you are staying at a Disney owned hotel getting to the parks is as easy as walking out of your resort and getting on a bus/boat/monorail. Guests staying off-site have the ability to use a shuttle specifically for their hotel to access the parks, but these may have additional costs or need to be requested in advance. Guest both on and off-site, if they choose, can drive to the parks—guests staying offsite will need to pay to park.

Now, if you do choose to stay offsite Disney recommends certain hotels. http://www.wdwgoodneighborhotels.com/browse-hotels/

If you choose to stay onsite there are dozens of options. The WDW website boasts 31 places to stay. This includes villas, campgrounds, and regular resorts. There are options for every family and every budget.

The resorts range anywhere from Fort Wilderness Campground which averages about $55 a night to the extravagant Contemporary.

There are value resorts, we have stayed at two of them, which are a great value in terms of the cost. They also have great pools, great theming, and quick service locations that serve all three meals.

The next step up is moderate resorts, we have stayed at one, and are able to sleep more people than those of the value resorts. These also have great theming, pools, and food options.

Next are the deluxe resorts. These resorts boast, most of the time, a signature restaurant as well as a regular sit-down restaurant and a quick-service eatery. Some resorts are on the monorail loop.

The resorts that don’t fit into these categories are the Cabins at Fort Wilderness and the Villas available at multiple resorts.

As I said, there are resorts to fit every family’s needs. All you need to decide is which one is right for you!
