Planning a Multi-Family and/or Multi-Generation Trip

As a family we’ve taken a fair amount of trips to Walt Disney World. Some trips we took as a couple, some as a family of three, and one each with our families when we were kids. Our past trip was a special one and so is our upcoming trip – they were and will be multi-generation and multi-family trips.

Our trip in January involved four hotel rooms, two sets of dates, guests from five different households and four generations. With so many people, there were thirteen of us total over the course of eleven days, and so many different tastes and interests this trip took some serious planning.

The first step in planning this trip was to pick someone to be in charge – that person was me (Miriya). Pick someone that is passionate about the trip and is ready and willing to plan.

Next comes the actual planning! Start out by picking your dates, resorts, tickets, dining plans, etc.

The most important step is obviously booking the trip.

I’m already doing this again for our upcoming September trip! Although this trip won’t have thirteen people like the last one, there will be six of us coming from two different states and making up three generations.

Tips:
We found that setting up Skype and FaceTime to discuss dining and Fastpass selections was immensely helpful.

Keep in mind that everyone has different tastes, make sure to include everyone in the planning process so that everyone gets to do and see things that they want to do and see, and eat somewhere that they want to eat.

Make sure that everyone is linked under Family & Friends on My Disney Experience – this allows for only one person to make reservations (dining and Fastpasses) for everyone.

As long as everyone is linked under Family & Friends only one reservation needs to purchase Memory Maker! Memory Maker allows you to have unlimited downloads of photos taken by Disney Photo Pass Photographers. Everyone can be in the photo!

Have you taken a multi-family and/or more than two generation trip? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
