Party Like a Pirate at Pirate Night on Disney Cruise Line
We
have been on two sailings with Pirate Nights, and our next sailing will have
one as well! Both nights were celebrations of all things pirates, but they were
each unique.
Our
sailing on the Magic included Pirate Night, but because it was a three night sailing
the menu in the dining room was the regular menu for that restaurant and
because of that there was a late night Pirate Buffet. That was not the case on
our most recent 7-night cruise. Prior to the Pirate Deck Party we enjoyed a
special pirate themed menu in the dining room.
The
bread on this particular evening was a Johnny Cake with Mango Dip. A Johnny
Cake is a flat cornbread. We love cornbread, but mango can be hit or miss. The
bread was good and had nice corn flavor. The dip was also full of flavor, but
if you’re not a fan of mango, the bread also goes well with regular butter.
Sometimes
a crab cake can taste more like breading than crab, but that was not the case
with the Davy Jones’ Locker Rock Crab Cake. The moist crab cake is served with
a zesty Chili-Cajin slaw and a grilled lime.
The
“Boucanier” Smoked Saucisson, Baked Brie, Brioche and Honey was amazing. Think
bread pudding, but bread pudding that is salty, sweet, buttery and topped with
a slice of sausage served warm. It was one of the best things we ate on the
entire cruise. Truthfully, we could have eaten five more of these.
Christian
was in the mood for noodles on this particular night, so we ordered him the Kid’s
Whole Wheat Penne Pasta. Lots of nutty
whole wheat pasta served with a generous portion of tomato sauce and Mozzarella
cheese. This choice was one of the Mickey Check Meals and came with a side of
apple slices and broccoli.
Jack’s
Treasure-of-the-Seas, seared scallops and grilled shrimp are served with pasta,
spinach, tomato sauce and slices of grilled tomatoes. The dish was a treasure
chest of seafood and tomato flavor!
We
love a good lamb shank and Chevalle’s Lamb Shank did not disappoint. The huge,
tender, bone-in lamb shank is braised in red wine and seasoned with rosemary.
It is served with a creamy, buttery parsnip mash and buttered green beans.
And
we couldn’t pass up the Braised Barbeque Beef Rib Salad. The ribs were tangy
and tender. The salad was a mix of lettuce, spinach, green onions, corn and
carrots all tossed with a creamy tomato sour cream dressing. This was a
satisfying dish for those looking for a lighter option.
The
Caramel Macadamia Nut Cheesecake Tart is a creamy, nutty cheesecake that is
served in a crisp and crumbly tart shell. The cheesecake it topped with caramel
ganache and macadamia nuts. It is served with chocolate and raspberry sauces
and whipped cream.
We’ve
big banana fans, so we couldn’t pass this one up. Bananas in Paradise is a
“layer cake” of banana bread and hazelnut fudge filling. Yum. It is served with
a spiced banana puree, a crisp banana chip that lends a crunch to the soft dish
and a raspberry for freshness.
We
also had to try the Rum-Soaked Chocolate Cake, it was Pirate Night after all! A
moist chocolate cake with a raspberry glaze and whipped cream. If you like the
combination of chocolate and raspberry don’t pass this one up!
Following
dinner we made our way up to the pool deck for the Pirate Deck Party. Guests
are encouraged to dress in pirate garb for the party, but don’t worry, everyone
receives a bandana before dinner so everyone can join in the fun!
The
party, like all deck parties include fun, music, dancing and characters. There
is also a dazzling finish to the party – fireworks at sea!
We
really enjoyed the pirate menu in the dining room and Pirate Night as a whole!
Don’t miss out on your chance to experience partying like a pirate on your next
cruise!
