Our Favorite Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Eats
At the beginning of April we spent a day at Epcot enjoying all that the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival had to offer.
The kids especially loved the Butterfly Garden, the Healthful Trail (playground) and Spike's Pollen Nation Exploration and the Easter scavenger hunts. All four of loved seeing the plants and gardens from around the world, and of course seeing the amazing topiaries of Disney characters around the park. And of course, just like at all Epcot festivals, we LOVED trying eats and treats around the park.
During our time at the festival we tried...
Toasted Pretzel Bread topped with black forest ham and melted Gruyère cheese - This dish keeps coming back year after year, and it's a tasty one. The name of the dish really says it all for this one. Toasty bread topped with salty ham, and melty cheese. It's a great combination.
BLT Scone with Nueske’s applewood-smoked bacon, sundried tomato, and basil - Wait, a BLT scone?! Yes, you read that right. This eat is found at the Cider House booth in the UK Pavilion, and it is delicious. The scone was dense, but that's how scones are. It was filled with bits of applewood-smoked bacon, sundried tomatoes, and basil, and was served with a sweet and savory bacon-onion chutney that was amazing on it's own, and even better with the scone.
Dark Chocolate Raspberry Tart with whipped cream - You'll also find this one at Cider House, and like the scone, it did not disappoint. A rich dark chocolate "crust" is filled with sweet and tart raspberry mousse, and topped with whipped cream and white chocolate. All four of us loved this one, even Christian who hates raspberry.
Goat Cheese Creamsicle Pop: Goat cheese Crémeux, orange cream, olive oil cake, cranberry sauce, and praline - There's a lot of mixed reviews out there for this one. Some people love it, some people hate it. It think part of the problem is that those that hate it go into eating it thinking that it will be a frozen creamsicle. That is not what this is. It is a chilled pop, one side is goat cheese, and the other orange cream. It is served with moist olive oil cake, cranberry sauce, and is sprinkled with bits of praline. We really enjoyed it. Sadly, this dish was found at Farmer's Feast on the Early Bloom menu, and that menu ended on April 9th.
Shrimp and Grits: Blackened shrimp and cheddar cheese grits with brown gravy and sweet corn salsa - This dish was amazing. Creamy, cheesy grits, topped with succulent really well seasoned shrimp, savory gravy, and crunchy, sweet corn and green onions. We look forward to eating this one again.
Fried Cinnamon Roll Bites with cream cheese frosting and candied bacon - Think about a warm cinnamon roll. Now, make it so that it is deep fried, and filled with creamy, cinnamony cream cheese frosting, and topped with candied bacon.
Beignet Caramélisé, Fourré Crème Vanille, Glacé au Caramel Fleur de Sel: Caramelized Beignet filled with vanilla cream and glazed with caramel fleur de sel - This is a tasty French snack, but really it's just a cream filled donut, topped with brueled sugar.
Arepa topped with chorizo - A yummy corn arepa, topped with chorizo that lends some nice spice-y (not necessaryily spicy, but spice flavor), and melty cheese. Quite satisfying.
Coconut Tres Leches: Vanilla cake soaked in oat milk, almond milk, and coconut milk with toasted coconut - Sadly, this one was a let down. We really hoped that this would scream coconut, but it was just more a good sweet cake, but there wasn't really any coconut flavor at all.
Griddled Maple Pound Cake with warm peach compote and sweet corn gelato - The pound cake was sweet and was nicely complimented by the warm peach compote. The sweet corn gelato was a good cold note to the warm dish, and it wasn't bad, but the corn flavor took a little getting used to.
House-made Italian Sausage and Peppers Poutine - We like getting whatever poutine is offered during the festivals at Refreshment Port. During the Flower and Garden Festival, that poutine is made with plant-based Italian sausage and peppers. We thought it was a satisfying poutine, and a good plant-based dish.
What are we looking forward to eating again, next time we're at the Festival?!
Dark Chocolate Raspberry Tart
Shrimp and Grits
Fried Cinnamon Roll Bites
