Lunch at The Leaky Cauldron
There were two main reasons for our trip to Universal Orlando last month. The first of those reasons was that we were already going to be in the Orlando area, and we wanted to make the most of our Universal Freedom Pass. The second reason was to actually experience the Wizarding World of Harry Potter since we didn’t really get to experience much in June.
One
of the things we were looking forward to after entering Harry Potter World was
the food. We decided to have lunch at The Leaky Cauldron since we had heard so
many good things about it. Howard, Christian, and I have all also ready the
books, and we thought it would be fun to experience a place that the characters
experience in the books and movies.
You’ll
find The Leaky Cauldron just after you pass through the brick wall to Diagon
Alley in Universal Studios. Most of the time there will be at least a short line
once you make your way inside. Once it is your turn, a witch or wizard will ask
how many are in your party, and you’ll be directed to a register.
At
the register you’ll order and pay for your food and drinks. We used or muggle
money and the muggle machine to pay for our lunch, we were given our drinks at
the counter, and then a witch took us to a table.
As
you can tell, this restaurant is a counter service / table service hybrid. You
order like at a counter service restaurant, but then you are seated and your
food is brought to you.
Our
food was brought to us quickly once we arrived at our table.
Atmosphere
The
inside of the restaurant is exactly like in the movie. There are photos of witches
and wizards on the walls, a giant cauldron in the giant fireplace, chandeliers,
and the way that the building was build and designed, it looks like there are
more floors above for guests to stay in.
Plastic
utensils, napkins, ketchup, mustard, HP Sauce, and malt vinegar are all at your
table.
Food
Howard
and I ordered the adult portion of the Fish and Chips. When it arrived at our
table, the fish was hot, crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and it
paired really well with the tartar sauce that came with it. The chips were also
quite good, and were even better with malt vinegar.
The kids both got Mac and Cheese from the kid’s menu. I did not taste the mac and cheese because they both ate theirs so fast. That should tell you that it is at least kid approved. Christian says that it was creamy and cheesy. Both kids opted for chips with their mac and cheese instead of fruit. Remember, these are British chips, which means fat, tasty fries.
The
Frozen Butterbeer actually tasted totally different from the regular version. It
has more butterscotch flavor that the regular. They were both really delicious,
though. I think on our next trip we’ll just get a frozen one.
We
also tried a Pumpkin Juice. This beverage had a flavor that was a lot like
pumpkin butter. Think apple butter, but pumpkin. It was tasty, and had a nice
amount of autumnal spices. I think I’ll pass on it next time, though.
Overall
We
all really enjoyed your food and drinks. The only small problems we had were
that Christian said he didn’t like the pictures on the walls, and that they
building looked like it was going to fall down. Also, if your kids are like
mine, and prefer to eat their mac and cheese with a spoon, know that there are no
spoons at the tables. We will eat here again someday, but it will not be an
every trip thing solely because it is so pricey. The two kids meals, one adult
meal, and three drinks was just under $60.

you eaten at The Leaky Cauldron? What is your favorite thing to get?!
