We've Moved!
Life was crazy for a couple of weeks, but things are starting to calm down again. We packed up everything we owned, loaded it into a moving truck, and drove from San Angelo, Texas to Sumter, South Carolina.
If you’ve read
our past posts, you know that we normally leave before the sun comes up on each
day of our road trips, that way we can enjoy the city we’re in once we get
there. This trip was a little different, though.
Our last night in San Angelo was spent it a hotel, and
Christian went to one last Cub Scout meeting with Pack 22. In the morning, we
made sure that everything was packed and out of the hotel room before driving
to our old neighborhood one more time to pick up the moving truck and Howard’s
car that was on the back.
Howard and Christian took the truck while Bella, Sansa,
and I took my car. We spent he rest of the morning, and into the afternoon,
driving across east Texas. If you haven’t been to Texas, it’s a BIG place. Seriously,
the drive the first day was six hours and thirty minutes, and only ten miles of
that drive were in Louisiana.
We spent the night in Shreveport, Louisiana where we
checked out a local park and spent some family time. We also continued our road
trip tradition by having Little Cesare’s pizza.
If you haven’t stayed at a Drury before, you’re
missing out. Dinner is included in your stay, and for adults 21 and old, three
drinks are included per night as well. On the night that we stayed the dinner
buffet included chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables,
salad, hot dogs, chili, and nachos.
Following dinner we went to a local ice cream parlor,
Big Spoon Creamery, for a delicious ice cream treat. Bella had Valrhona Dark Chocolate,
Christian had Cookies n’ Cream, Howard had Goat Cheese Strawberry Hibiscus, and
I had Peanut Butter Caramel Peanut. All four flavors were delicious.
The next morning, Howard left early with Sansa, so
that they could get to Sumter around noon to meet the internet installers. The
kids and I got up and ate breakfast before hitting the road. The breakfast in
Birmingham was much better than in Shreveport. The hotel in Shreveport (a La
Quinta) only offered small boxes of Froot Loops and Shredded Wheat with milk.
The Drury has scrambled eggs, sausage patties, breakfast potatoes, biscuits and
gravy, bagels and bread, waffles, cereal, packaged muffins, fruit, milk, juice,
and coffee.
We enjoyed our breakfast and then set out. We drove
through the rest of Alabama, through Georgia, and then into South Carolina. We
made it to Sumter, and then unloaded everything from the 26ft moving truck.
It was an adventure, but we’re settling into our new
house, and the new town. We’re looking forward to adventures here in Sumter, as
well as taking trips away from here, like the trip to Disney World next month!
