Star Wars Day at Sea Dining Review
This
past weekend Star Wars Celebration took place in Chicago and throughout the
weekend live streams let those of us that weren’t there take part in the Star
Wars love. During the celebration fans, including myself through live stream,
got to look at the amazing Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge lands that are opening at
Disneyland and Disney World in the next few months. We also learned the name of
Episode IX (Rise of Skywalker), and got to see the trailer for it and the new
season of Star Wars: Clone Wars that will be released on Disney+. With all of
that I thought it would be fitting to carry on the Star Wars love with a
continuation of our Star Wars Day at Sea post from two weeks ago with a review
of all of the delicious food that we enjoyed during Star Wars Day aboard the
Disney Fantasy.
We
didn’t want to miss any of the action on Star Wars Day so we opted for a quick
lunch from Flo’s Café on the pool deck. This worked out well for us for two
reasons – we got to enjoy delicious, quick eats with a Star Wars theme, and the
time and place that we picked to sit and eat allowed us to see Boba Fett,
Stormtroopers, and Zam Wesell!
Every
day throughout the cruise there are daily specials at the three quick service
windows. On Stars Day the specials were:
·
Death
Star Pizza (Pepperoni, Beans and Chili Flakes)
·
Boba
Fett Pizza (Green Bell Peppers, Black Olives, Tomatoes, and Mozzarella Cheese)
·
Darth
Vader Bantha Burger (Bacon Cheese Burger on a Sith Bun)
·
Gorba
Melt Panini (Smoked Turkey, Tomato & American Cheese with Whole Grain
Mustard)
·
Pulled
Pork Sandwich (BBQ Pulled Pork on a Sweet Potato Biscuit with Coleslaw)
We
tried both pizzas, the Darth Vader Bantha Burger and the Pulled Pork Sandwich.
We
really enjoyed the Death Star Pizza. Pepperoni pizza with black beans that added
a bit of natural sweet flavor and a bit of spice from chili flakes. We could
have eaten a whole pizza!
The
Boba Fett Pizza was a delicious veggie pizza with tomatoes, green bell peppers,
black olives and mozzarella cheese. I’m not normally an olive fan, but they
went well with the rest of the toppings. We really enjoyed this pizza as well.
The
Darth Vader Bantha Burger was a bacon cheeseburger served on a Sith bun. What
is a Sith bun you ask? It is a bun that, like the cloaks that the Sith wear, is
black. We enjoyed the burger and topped with veggies and condiments from
“toppings” selection a few steps away from the restaurant counters.
Lastly
at lunch we tried the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Although it was not an especially
Star Wars-y sandwich we went for it because we all really like pulled pork. The
pork was tender and coated in a tangy barbecue sauce and served on sweet potato
bun. The bun added another layer of flavor to the dish that made it more
complex than a regular pulled pork sandwich.
After
enjoying our meal and meeting some characters the Star Wars horn sounded! We
also grabbed a Darth Vader Brownie from Cabanas to take back to our stateroom
to enjoy a little bit later. The brownie was moist, chocolatey, and was topped
with a chocolate Darth Vader head.
Dinner
All
three dining rooms serve the same Star Wars menu at dinner on Star Wars Day at
sea, and there are quite a lot of amazing and delicious things to choose from.
Since there are so many choices we won’t list them all, but you can check out
photos of the menus and the dishes that we ordered here.
We
had done our research before our trip, so we knew going in that we would be
eating A LOT on Star Wars Day. We shared three appetizers, two adult menu
entrees, two kid’s menu entrees, and three desserts.
In
true Star Wars Day fashion the menu items have fun Star Wars themed names.
We
tried the Bantha Steak Empanadas – pockets of flaky dough filled with finely
chopped beef that were served with a Chimichurri sauce that paired perfectly
with the dish. They were quite tasty.
We
also tried the Mos Espa Grand Arena Tailgate Sandwich which is the perfect for
those waiting for a pod race to start. Country ham, a sweet and tangy orange
cranberry marmalade, and a crunchy slaw fill buttery brioche buns. There are
three per plate, but we could easily eaten ten of these.
The
last appetizer we tried was the Padme Amidala Soufflé. If like cheese you’ll
like this soft, pillowy double baked soufflé that is coated and surrounded by a
creamy cheddar cheese sauce, and topped with a sweet apple compote. The main
reason we ordered this one was because of the cheese, and because we like
Padme. We were really glad that we did, though, and we could have easily eaten
more than one of these as well.
For
our main course we ordered Lord Vader’s Nerf Steak. We all remember when Leia
called Han a nerf-herder, right? Well, nerfs were apparently furry cow-like
creatures that were raised for their hide, meat, and milk. On this particular
evening we enjoyed a Nerf Steak. The marinated and grilled Beef Rib-Eye Steak
was tender, flavorful, and large. It was served with crispy, yet tender roasted
fingerling potatoes, sweet baby carrots, collard greens, and a red wine truffle
jus on the side. The all of the aspects of the dish paired quite nicely.
Also
from the Death Star we enjoyed the Stormtrooper Flatbread. A tender on the top,
yet crisp on the bottom flatbread crust was topped with brie (one of my
favorite cheeses), walnuts, caramelized red onions, spinach and peaches. The
spinach and peaches were nicely baked, the cheese was melty and gooey. It was
topped with a crisp olive oil dressed arugula. It was delicious
Christian
enjoyed the kid’s Stormtrooper Cheese Pizza which was the standard kid’s menu
cheese pizza, but there’s nothing wrong with that. He enjoyed it and the fries
that he ordered with it.
The
kid’s Skywalker’s Grilled Chicken Skewer was a tasty combination of grilled
chicken, red bell peppers, and zucchini. Bella loved it. It came with steamed
veggies, French fries, and roasted sweet potatoes.
We
finished the meal with Cloud City Macarons. Half of the delicious cookie
sandwich was lemon while the other half was raspberry – a tasty combination. It
was filled with fresh raspberries and a raspberry cream, and served with a
vanilla sauce, freeze-died raspberry bits and a piece of dark chocolate. It was
a delicious, crisp yet chewy and fluffy combination.
We
also enjoyed the Galactic Senator Bail Organa Flan. Creamy dark chocolate flan
that was served with sweet and tangy mandarin and strawberry salad.
Christian
finished his Star Wars dining experience with a Mickey ice cream bar.
After
dinner we relaxed for a while, did some trivia, and then made our way to the
Summon the Force deck party. As with all good late night deck parties, we also
went to the Star Wars buffet following the fireworks. The buffet featured items
like:
Sliders
Rice
Nachos
Fajitas
Fresh
Fruit
Bread
Carved
Meats
Desserts
We
really enjoyed Star Wars Day at Sea as a whole and really enjoyed the Star Wars
dining options as well. We highly recommend enjoy a Star Wars Day at Sea sailing
for yourself! We can’t wait to do it again someday!
