A Look at Disney's Pop Century
On
our trip to the Walt Disney World Resort in February we stayed at Pop Century.
The resort is one of the value resorts, and if you’ve read some of our post
from past stays you’ll know that we LOVE staying at the Disney World Value
Resorts.
We
had visited Pop during a room only stay a few years ago as part of a resort
hopping day, but had never stayed at the resort before. I can happily say that
were really enjoyed our stay and are planning on staying at this resort again
someday.
Like
the other four value resorts, All-Star Resorts and Art of Animation, Pop
Century has larger than life theming that is especially great for families.
This resort is all about pop culture! Around the resort you’ll see larger than
life icons from the 1950s through the 1990s. Each decade has two buildings of
guest rooms, except for the 90s which has one building. The stairwells on the
ends of the buildings feature items unique to that decade! The 50s buildings
have bowling pins, the 60s have yo-yos, the 70s have 8-track tapes, the 80s
have Rubik’s cubes, and the 90s building has cell phones!
Christian
really like walking up and down the stairs through the Rubik’s cube to get to
and from our room.
You’ll
also find icons like a giant Mickey Mouse phone, Mowgili and Baloo, Walkman player,
Roger Rabbit, Playdoh, Lady and the Tramp, a big wheel, Mr. and Mrs. Potato
Head, Goofy with a surfboard, a jukebox, a giant game of Foosball, and Twister
boards with a working spinner! Seriously, it’s such a fun resort to walk around
and explore even if you’re not staying there.
A
stroll through the lobby of the main building will also take you on a journey through
time with shadow boxes though the decades. It was fun to see things from when
we were kids in the 90s!
All
of the guest rooms have been completely redone in the last two years and now
have a sleek modern feel with lots of white and wood floors. They still have a
hint of retro with a Mickey art above the headboard. Some rooms have one King
Bed, however most have two queen beds, one of which is a pull-down bed. The
ability to fold it up when it’s not being used is great! It makes the room feel
so much bigger! When the bed is closed a built in table appears.
The
rooms have lots of storage space (a dresser and cubbies by the bathroom), a
safe, a TV, a mini fridge, and in room coffee maker.
The
resort also has three pools to splash and have fun in the sun. The main, Hippy
Dippy Pool has a 60s theme and is located directly behind Classic Hall. The
Bowling Pool is located in the 50s section of the resort and is shaped like a
bowling pin. Lastly, the Computer Pool is like the screen of a computer while
the pool deck is the keyboard and is located between the 80s and 90s buildings.
In
addition to the pools guest at Pop Century can enjoy a walk down memory lane –
a path with a fact from each year of the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80, and 90s.
Interested in a little more exercise? There is a jogging path that runs along
Hourglass Lake and through Pop Century and Art of Animation.
Guests
can also enjoy activities like pool games, trivia, crafts (these cost extra),
and movies under the stars! There is also a playground for little ones to burn
off some energy.
One
of my favorite parts of the resort, besides the theming, is the food.
Everything Pop Shopping and Dining is the gift shop and food court area and is
open from 6am to midnight each day. Stop by for a meal or snack and a souvenir.
Like all resort food courts, Everything Pop is a quick service location that
serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
The
breakfast menus include Mickey waffles, eggs, bacon, beagle breakfast sandwich and
more. Lunch and dinner feature sandwiches, pizza, pasta, salads and more. The
grab and go section features packaged ice cream, bottled drinks, pastries, deserts,
fruits and veggies and quick meals.
Don’t
forget the ice cream. Stop by the express ice cream counter for a tasty sundae
or a pineapple float (dole whip). Don’t miss out on Pop’s special desert, the
tie die cheesecake. It’s a combination of colorful cheesecake on top of red velvet
cake.
As
with all Disney resort hotels there are dedicated buses between Pop and the
parks as well as Disney Springs. When it opens the Disney Skyliner will have a
station between Pop Century and Art of Animation.
We
really enjoyed our stay at Pop Century and can’t wait to stay there again.
