Is There a Dress Code on Disney Cruise Line?

A Disney Cruise Line vacation is all about having fun, being comfortable and relaxing! What you’re wearing plays a big part in being comfortable, and Disney knows that! We’re sure that you’ve wondered, at least once, what exactly you should wear during your cruise vacation. Today we have for you the answer to the question of “Is there a dress code on Disney Cruise Line?”

Over the last few years Disney as relaxed their dress code a bit, but we tend to stick to the old standards for the most part. For dinner, we personally change from shorts to pants for dinner and we avoid flip flops unless we’re going to the pool.

Most locations on the ship are cruise causal – this means whatever you’re wearing that day, shorts and a t-shirt are perfectly fine. Swimwear and tank tops are not permitted in any of the dining rooms.

There are special theme nights, that while participation is not required it is highly encouraged. Most sailings include a Pirate Night and longer cruises include semi-formal and formal nights.

Many guests dress up in pirate attire for Pirate Night – some go all out while others take a more subtle approach. All guests receive a pirate bandana to wear before dinner on the evening of the Pirate celebration.

Dressing up on dress up nights is completely optional, but it is a lot of fun. Disney Cruise Line recommends, “dress pants with a jacket or a suit for men, and dress or pantsuit for women.” For formal night the Whitakers dress up in what in the real world is probably considered semi-formal. A suit, a black dress, and for Christian a dress shirt, dress pants and a vest. For semi-formal the suit jacket and vest get put away and the boys dress in dress pants and button up shirts and instead of a dress this mommy opts for a blouse and skirt.

Palo and Remy present opportunities to dress up and enjoy some adult only times.

Here are Disney Cruise Line’s guidelines for these two locations.

Palo:
Men: dress pants or slacks and collared shirt; jacket is optional
Women: dress, skirt or pants with a blouse
Jeans may be worn if in good condition (no holes)

Remy:
Dinner:
Men: A jacket (such as a sports, suit or tuxedo jacket) is required, with dress pants/slacks and shoes. Ties are optional. Please no jeans, shorts, sandals, flip-flops or tennis shoes.
Ladies: Cocktail dress, evening dress, pant suit or skirt/blouse are required. Please no jeans, shorts, capri pants, sandals, flip-flops or tennis shoes.

Brunch and Dessert:
Men: Dress pants and a shirt are required for men. A jacket is optional. Please no jeans, shorts, capri pants, sandals, flip-flops or tennis shoes.
Women: A dress or pantsuit is required. Please no jeans, shorts, capri pants, sandals, flip-flops or tennis shoes.

There are great opportunities to enjoy dressing up as a family – in dress clothes or pirate attire – and there are chances to just relax in your favorite Disney t-shirt.
