Triton's Aboard the Disney Wonder (Fall 2016)
As
you board the ship on the first day of your cruise you will walk into the main
lobby and Triton’s will be just to your left. Triton’s is one of the three main
dining restaurants and has a more upscale atmosphere than Tiana’s or Animator’s
Palate. The back wall of the restaurant features a mural of the Little Mermaid!
After all, the restaurant is named after King Triton. There renovation of the
ship also brought lamps featuring Sebastian the crab from Parrot Cay into
Triton’s.
On
the night of the cruise that Triton’s serves its regular menu, and not a themed
on, the cuisine is French inspired.
We
dined here on the first night of our seven night sailing which meant that we
ate here three times for dinner! Every night the menu was different and did not
disappoint.
On
the first night we each enjoyed an appetizer and entrée. Christian was a little
restless so he and Howard left early so that he could burn off some energy
before the tree lighting which meant that we only sampled one dessert.
The
Food
The
kid’s menu has the option of a salad with your favorite dressing. Believe it or
not, Christian actually really likes salad, so he ordered the Kid’s Salad with
Ranch Dressing. The salad is a mix of greens, julienned carrots, cucumbers and
tomatoes.
We’re
big fans of Escargot, so we just had to order it. If you’ve never tried it
before and you think, “Ew snails!” you should give it a try if you get the
chance. They’re tender, not rubbery, and are nicely buttery and garlicky. It is
served with a breadstick which is perfect for dipping in the left over garlic
butter.
And
if you like cheese and fried things, then the Breaded and Deep Fried Brie is
for you. Two crispy chunks of deep fried creamy brie. It is served with a tangy
cranberry chutney that cuts through the richness of the dish nicely.
We’re
also big fans of duck. If you’ve never had duck before it has a very distinct
flavor to it. The Crispy Roasted Duck Breast is a full duck breast that has
been crisped, yum crispy skin, and sliced. It is also served with a rich and
tender duck leg. Cabbage, a delicious parsnip mash – parsnips also have a
distinct flavor – and a duck and red wind jus round out the dish. Everything
pairs well together!
We
also tried the Chateaubriand-Roasted Filet Steak. Tender filet steak served
with crushed New Potatoes, shallots, buttery, still slightly crispy green means
and a red wine jus as well as a Béarnaise sauce. Yum.
The
Kid’s Tukey Meatloaf is a Mickey Check Meal! Two moist meatloaf rounds are
served with carrot ketchup – a sneaky way to get your child that doesn’t like
carrots to eat them – mashed potatoes and fruit. The ketchup is slightly sweet
from the carrots and pairs well with the meatloaf and the potatoes. The fruit
consisted of cantaloupe, honeydew and pineapple, all of which was juicy and
sweet – impressive since it was the end of November.
To
finish one of us enjoyed the Classic Opera Gateau. Layers of moist sponge cake
soaked in coffee syrup and stacked with buttercream and rich chocolate ganache.
If you like the combination of coffee and chocolate you’ll LOVE this dessert.
We
have greatly enjoyed our meal every time we have dined at Triton’s. We highly
recommend that you do not skip this restaurant!
