Tiana's Place on the Disney Wonder

One of the changes that came to the Disney Wonder has part of the refurbishments during the fall was Tiana’s Place. Tiana’s is a main dining restaurant that took the place of Parrot Cay. If you’re familiar with Disney’s the Princess and the Frog you’ll know that it was Tiana’s dream to open a restaurant. Tiana’s Place is her dream come true!

When you enter the restaurant you’ll feel as though you’ve left the ship and been transported to New Orleans! As soon as you enter you’re met with balconies, beads and brick – welcome to Mardi Gras!

Step a little further inside to find a grand dining room with tributes to all of Tiana’s friends and family. The table décor features lily pads and frogs! At the very front of the room is a stage where the Crawfish Crooners entertain guests with live music throughout the night.

The cuisine at Tiana’s has a Cajun flair, but don’t worry if you’re not a fan of spice there is something for everyone. There are also a few menu items that pay tribute to Prince Naveen’s home of Maldonia.

Guests also have the opportunity to meet with the owner herself as well as Louis the Gator!

We dined at Tiana’s twice during our sailing and each night had unique menu. So much food and so little time! Let’s dig in!

As with every great meal, this one started with a bread service of Fig and Date Ciabata, the fruit gave it a bit of sweetness.

We sampled two appetizers, the Louisiana Hot Crab Dip and the Duck and Pistachio Terrine. The Duck Terrine has the appearance of a thick slice of salami with bites of delicious fat running through it. It has a great duck flavor and paired quite well with the pistachios and candied orange peel that were served with it. The Crab Dip was creamy and full of crab flavor. Both appetizers were great for sharing.

We each only have one entrée on this, and I’m pretty sure on every night of the sailing. Christian had the Kid’s Burger with fries and veggies. The burger was a standard burger, but it was quite good. It can be ordered with or without cheese and comes with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. The steak fries are fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The veggies, broccoli, cauliflower and carrot, are certainly not a favorite of little ones, but you can order a different side in place of them.

If you’re a fan of veal you’ll love the Trio of Veal. Pulled veal shank, grilled tenderloin and tortellacci pasta all with sun-dried tomato and sage reduction and a potato crisp. Yum.

Lime-Marinated Jumbo Shrimp was quite delicious. Two jumbo shrimp served over Jambalaya Rice, a real taste of Louisiana flavors and topped with a fennel salad.

The smaller number of entrees allowed us room for more desserts. We sampled four!

Prince Naveen’s Flourless Chocolate Cake – Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Soft, moist, creamy, chocolatey goodness in cake form.

The Louisiana Root Beer Crème was an interesting, but tasty dessert. A jelly like crème with BIG root beer flavor served with chocolate, brittle for crunch and a cherry foam like cream.

The Maldonia Berry Financier is a lighter option, but it still delicious. An almond crumble cake – yum – is served with a fresh berry compote. During our sailing the compote consisted of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.

Banoffee Cream Pie equals cream pie to the max. A caramel toffee base with bananas and topped with at least an inch of whipped cream. If you like caramel, bananas and whipped cream do yourself a favor and order this dessert.

The second evening that we dined here went a lot like the first, however Tiana was just inside the door greeting guests! The music also started earlier in the meal period. The food was all delicious and of course highlighted the flavorful cuisine of Louisiana.

The bread service on this particular evening was Herbed Brioche, flavorful herbs in soft buttery bread with a Roasted Onion Dip that was big on roasted onion flavor. Yum!

On this evening we ordered two appetizers, but our amazing server, Liliana, brought us her favorite, Prince Naveen’s Cajun Charcuterie Board, as well so that we wouldn’t miss out. We were so glad that she did.

The Boudin Sausage Fritters, fried balls of breaded minced pork and Boudin sausage had amazing pork flavor and paired well with the creamy Bourbon Aioli that it was served with.

The New Orleans Seafood Pepper Pot Soup is a great seafood soup with shrimp, calamari and scallops. It has lots of great seafood flavor and is surprisingly light.

We had really wanted to try Prince Naveen’s Cajun Charcuterie Board, but we had eaten brunch at Palo earlier in the day and still wanted to be able to sample something from all three course of this meal. We were quite pleased when it arrived at our table, though! The platter features a Cajun Egg, a deviled egg with Cajun flavor, Duck Rillette, Cured Pork Shoulder, Duck Pastrami and Saucisson and is served with spiced mustard, a pickle and a breadstick. If you’re a fan of duck you’ll enjoy this platter.

When it came time for entrees we each had one.

Christian had the Kid’s Burger, which we talked about earlier. We also had James’s Roasted Pork Tenderloin which was moist and flavorful – it was served with white rice, greens and an Andouille Sausage sauce that was full of veggies, sausage and a slightly spicy flavor.

The Honey Roasted Butternut Squash was delicious. The naturally slightly sweet squash given a bit more sweetness from the honey and served with a tomato sauce full of celery and bell peppers, greens and white rice. It was really a satisfying dish.

We finished the evening with two different desserts. This was the part of the evening that we were most looking forward to!

Tiana’s Buttermilk Beignets were soft and fluffy on the inside and had a bit of crunch on the outside. They were served with a rich Chocolate Espresso Dipping Sauce.

Lastly we sampled Mama Odie’s White Chocolate Bread Pudding. We are BIG bread pudding fans and have tried a lot of different versions. This was passed the test. Moist bread pudding topped with Praline Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream.

We truly enjoyed both of our experiences at Tiana’s and we recommend that if you’re going to skip on the main dining room dinners that it not be this one!
