Disney Cruise Line Very MerryTime Cruises Activities

Disney Cruise Line offers special seasonal and holiday sailings which include Halloween on the High Seas and Very MerryTime Cruises. Halloween on the High Seas takes place in September and October, and Very MerryTime Cruises take place in November and December.

Our cruise this past November was a Very MerryTime sailing. The hallways, restaurants, kid’s clubs and even Castaway Cay were decked out for the Christmas season. Garland and Christmas bulbs in the main hallways and restaurants, a tree, garland and Mr. and Mrs. Sandman on Castaway Cay and in the lobby there was a giant Christmas tree and HUGE gingerbread house.

In addition to the decorations there were a lot of great Christmas activities! We tried to take part in all of them so that we could share about them with you.

On the very first evening of the cruise the Christmas tree in the lobby is lit up. After the tree lighting ceremony it remains lit for the remainder of the cruise. Mickey’s Tree Lighting Magic features Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and Goofy in their Christmas best, songs and dancing. A special family is chosen to be part of the ceremony – they are led up from deck 3 to deck 4 and light the tree using Pixie Dust. The ceremony takes places at 7:30pm, so between the two dinner seatings. Since there is only one ceremony and some areas are blocked off for it, there is limited space in the atrium. Get there early for a good spot.

The Deck the Deck Tropical Holiday Party took place just as we pulled into Key West, Florida at around 11:15am. This party takes place on the main stage on the pool deck. We were able to see the fun and games from a table off to the side while we enjoyed our lunch. Dancing, games, and a parade around deck 9 and 10 are all part of the party. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip, Dale and Stitch all take part in the party in outfits with a tropical and Christmas flair.

Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball takes place twice on the same day, once at 4:30pm and again at 10:15pm. The second time will most likely be less crowded. Truthfully we were long asleep by the time the second one started. Singers and dancers, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto, Mrs. Claus, Anna and Elsa all make appearances and celebrate the season. And it wouldn’t be Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball without Santa Claus himself!

Characters are a big part of the Disney experience, on land or at sea and you meet characters in their Christmas best around the ship.

You can also meet the big man himself! There are opportunities to meet Santa throughout the cruise and don’t forget to put your name on the Good List, too!

There is Storytime with Mrs. Claus! Children can gather round Mrs. Claus in the lobby for a class Christmas story.

The youth clubs also host Christmas activities like holiday parties and gingerbread house building.

We really enjoyed our time on our Very MerryTime cruise, so much so that the next cruise that we have booked is another Very MerryTime! We’ll be sure to give you updates on the available activities after our sailing in December.
