Biergarten Restaurant Review

World Showcase at Epcot is a great spot to learn about culture – especially through food. Each of the 11 countries has at least one place to find cultural culinary delights. The Germany Pavilion is located between the Italy Pavilion and the African Outpost.

Biergarten is a German buffet that serves lunch and dinner in a unique setting. The restaurant is located in the very back of the pavilion and is easy to overlook if you don’t know what you’re looking for.

The check-in desk is just under the left arch and once you check in enjoy the mural on the back wall while you wait to be seated.

When your pager goes off a cultural ambassador will transport you to their native land. The inside of the restaurant is themed as a Bavarian town at night.

Throughout the day Oktoberfest type entertainment is performed live. A band in lederhosen plays water glasses, alpenhorns, and traditional polka music. Guests are welcome and invited to show off their polka moves on the dance floor.

The atmosphere really will make you feel like you are in a quaint German town and not a theme park in central Florida.

If you are shy the shared tables may make you slightly uncomfortable - but remember after this meal you will probably never see the people at your table again. Tables seat 8.

Food

You may also think that a restaurant with foreign food may not be the best place for picky eaters, but this buffet has you covered. Schnitzel, potato salad, pretzel rolls, sausages, sauerkraut, spätzle, German desserts and more can be found at this delicious eatery. In terms of beverages, if you really want to feel as though you are in German and are of age indulge in a liter of beer.

When you make your way to the buffet you can go to either the left or right, both sides have exactly the same choices.

We don’t have many pictures of food from this particular location because it is a buffet, but we will share what we remember most about our experience.

The sausages are exactly what you would expect – meaty and delicious. Sausage is also available in salad form.

The sauerkraut was tangy and delicious – if you like kraut go for it – Howard says that it was slightly more vinegary that served in Germany. He spent two weeks in Germany in March of this year, so he knows a little bit about the food there.

The pretzel bread is soft and just salty enough to make you want another sip of you beer.

The schnitzel is nicely breaded and fried golden brown. It has a great pork flavor and goes great with the gravy that is available, however if you want to go more traditional and have Schnitzel Viner Art then there are lemon wedges nearby to squeeze on your pork.

We have not tried the beer here, but we have heard good things about it.

The desserts are one of the highlights of the meal – well if you like desserts that is. They are not quite as good are those actually in Germany, and Howard would like to point out that he did not see any black forest cake in Germany, but they are delicious.
Apple Strudel in Germany (The Real Germany)

The most memorable of the available desserts are the Black Forest Cake and the Apple Strudel. The Black Forest cake has a great chocolate and cherry flavor and is moist. The strudel is apple-y and buttery. It is great with or without the vanilla sauce.

Overall
If you’re looking for an adventurous place to eat in World Showcase, but a place that is slightly less than adventurous than perhaps Moroccan food – or you’re just a fan of German food then Biergarten is for you.
