When Can We Cruise Again?!
When Can We Cruise Again?!
This is a question that has been on a lot of minds, including my own, since the middle of March. The answer is, sadly, not simple. There is no specific date for when cruising can resume, but there is a list of requirements that will need to be met before cruise ships can set sail with passengers again.
When cruises first started to get cancelled there was hope that things would get better quickly. Here we are, eight months later and things are most certainly not better at all. For a while the CDC had a no sail order in place, and CLIA had one of their own as well. The CDC’s order was no renewed at the end of October, but there are restrictions that are in place and requirements that need to be met before cruising can begin again.
What are these requirements?
• Successful simulated voyages with crew members only.
• Enhanced cleaning on cruise ships.
• Lower ship capacities.
• Shorter sailings.
• Enhanced air management.
• Testing for crew and passengers.
• So much more.
As of right now, there is no time table for when the cruise industry can return to business with sailings departing from the U.S. The CDC has presented a four-phase approach to returning to sailing.
When sailings are allowed to begin again, I believe that things will be changed quite a lot from how sailing was when we last cruised in February. Masks will be required when guests are not in their staterooms, capacities will be limited, sailings will be shorter, there will no longer be self-serve options. Eventually, things may go back to the way that they were before, but not for quite some time.
We had a sailing booked for February 2021, but ended up canceling that and booking one for November 2021 a few months ago. Why? I personally believed then, and even more so now, that sailings will not be happening yet come February. Additionally, if sailings were to start it would not be the same type of cruise that we are used to, and the restrictions would not be something that we would be willing to deal with in such a small space. We hope that cruising can resume, and that our November sailing can happen and be a magical Disney Cruise experience.
We fully support all that needs to be done to return to cruising! We fully support what is being done at the Walt Disney World to make it so that guests can have a magical time there. I had an amazing time on my trip last month, and if you’re interested in learning more about my time at Disney World with COVID restrictions, check out my post about it here.
The current situation in the world will eventually come to an end, and when it does, and you’re ready to travel again I’d be happy to help you plan and book your next magical vacation.
