Disney Dining is Magical, Especially for Those with Food Allergies

Food allergies have become more and more common in the last ten or so years, and with them it has become more common for someone to miss out on something amazing because they aren’t allowed to enjoy it because of one or more ingredients. None of the three of us Whitakers have food allergies, but my sister, Christian’s aunt has an abundance of allergies (we’re talking somewhere around 50 different foods), and we’ve seen how hard it can be for her. I have also seen firsthand, though, how amazing the Walt Disney World Resort is at handling food allergies big and small. That’s what we’re going to talk about today – the Walt Disney World Resort and their magic when it comes to working with those with food allergies.

Walt Disney World is all about magic, and that extends from the rides and attractions to the quick service windows and table service dining rooms. The culinary staff really goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone has a magical dining experience. The experience starts before you even leave home.

During the planning stages of your trip there are two important steps to take to make sure that the kitchen staffs know that you have an allergy. The first step is add your allergies under the special requests section of any dining reservations that you make. The second step is for those that have multiple allergies or more than one person in a dining party that has allergies. In this step you will email Disney Special Diets (Special.Diets@DisneyWorld.com) and they will provide you with a form to fill out with all of the places that you plan to dine during your trip as well as times and reservation numbers. It is requested that this is done at least 14 days prior to arrival.

Once you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort the real magic begins! Many table service restaurants have allergy menus that may work for you if you only have one or two allergies. However, it is always recommended that you discuss your allergies needs with both your server and the chef. They will go over what you can and cannot have and work from there. At buffets the chef will walk with you along the buffet to discuss what items are safe or unsafe for you to eat based on their ingredients. Table service restaurants aren’t the only place you can eat either! Most quick service locations have allergy friendly ingredients as well and will be happy to work with you.

Our, well Sharon’s experience.

The chefs that we encountered were more than happy to make sure that Sharon had more than enough to eat! They came to the table to look at her extensive list of allergies and then worked with her from scratch to prepare something that she could not only eat, but could enjoy. Many of the chefs went out of their way, one walking halfway across Magic Kingdom to retrieve an ingredient just to see if she could eat it not.

We dined at 50’s Prime Time Café in Hollywood Studios, Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, The Diamond Horseshoe at Magic Kingdom, Biergarten at Epcot and the End Zone Food at All-Star Sports and all of the chefs were absolutely amazing. The food that she received came in huge portions and spanned from massive pork chops with roasted potatoes to seared lamb with veggies, and rice noodles with sausage, corn and broccoli (yum!) as well as dinner rolls that she hadn’t even known existed with butter that she could eat and all of the Enjoy Life cookies that she could ever want. At All-Star Sports for breakfast she was able to enjoy Mickey waffles, bacon and pancakes. At 50’s Prime Time Café, after hunting down a pork chop, well two, that hadn’t been stuffed or brined and cutting it and cooking it then and there they also brought out fresh blueberries with sugar snow.

So whether you have one or fifty allergies the chefs at Disney World will be more than happy to work with you and you will be more than happy with the food that arrives at your table.
