Lumiere's Aboard the Disney Magic
On
the first evening of our Bahamas cruise on the Disney Magic we dined at Lumiere’s.
Lumiere’s is one of the first things you see when you board the ship. Its main
entrance is located in the main lobby. As you would expect from the name it is
themed after Beauty and the Beast and the food has a French inspiration, just
like the movie. Inside the restaurant you will find roses everywhere, after all
roses are an important part of Belle and the Beast’s story. The back wall of
the restaurant also features a mural of the iconic dance in the ballroom.
On
to the food.
As
always a bread service was part of dinner. On this particular a Warm French
Country Bread with Olive Spread was served. The bread was crusty on the outside
and soft and warm on the inside. The spread was very olive-y.
The
Cream of Mushroom Soup was full of rich mushroom flavor, neither the mushrooms
nor the cream were over powering at all and completed each other well. It was a
great soup.
If
you’re not familiar with Duck Confit it is duck, traditionally duck leg, which
is cooked in its own fat. Duck fat it considered to be cooking gold in many food
circles. Now, cooking the duck in its fat makes it incredibly tender and adds
extra duck flavor. We all like duck, so this was an easy choice for us. The leg
meat was shredded and placed on a bed of shredded lettuce. The meat was
flavorful and tender. It was served with Craisins that added sweetness and
walnuts that added a nice crunch.
The
Potato Leek Soup was creamy and a full of rich potato flavor with a hint of
leeks.
Then
came the entrees – we tried three.
The
Roasted Rack of Lamb Medium was presented beautifully. Two lamb chops were
cooked to medium and crusted with herbs and breadcrumbs. The crust provide a
crunch that paired well with the tender meat. A rich Burgundy Rosemary sauce
added additional flavor to the meat. Dauphinoise Potatoes which are like
scalloped potatoes, were served with the lamb. The stack of potatoes was
tender, buttery, and delicious. Buttery Brussel sprouts which were tender and
well, buttery also accompanied the dish.
We
also tried the Conchiglie Pasta. Conchiglie is actually the name of what is
commonly called “shells”! Mimi shells, cooked perfectly, lightly coated in a
rich Tomato Shrimp, Tarragon and Brandy sauce. There was just enough sauce to
coat it. If pasta isn’t good enough by itself, this dish also includes tender,
buttery chunks of lobster! Yum.
From
the kids menu we ordered Macaroni and Cheese. The pasta was drenched, in a good
way, in rich creamy cheesy cheese sauce. The fries that came with it were crisp
on the outside, soft on the inside delicious steak fries. Green beans, which
were blanched, and tasty also came with the dish.
After
all of that we still somehow had room for dessert, or we made room for it – it is
a Disney cruise after all, you have to have dessert. We tried two on this
evening.
The
Apple Tart Tatin was slightly different from a traditional tart tatin. This
rendition was half of an apple thinly sliced, but still together baked and caramelized
for even more sweetness than a regular apple would offer. The apple was sweet,
soft, and full of cinnamon flavor. On the side was thin chip of baked dough
topped with a scoop of creamy vanilla bean ice cream. I love the combination of
cold ice cream with a warm dessert. This definitely satisfied our sweet tooth.
As
if that wasn’t enough, however we also ordered a Strawberry Shortcake Sundae.
Slightly sweet shortcake chunks, syrupy and sweet strawberry sauce, creamy
vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate shavings all served in a sundae
glass. It was just like eating strawberry shortcake, but with the amazing
addition of vanilla ice cream.
Overall
we enjoyed our evening at Lumiere’s, the theme is great and the food was
delicious. We highly recommend it and the Disney Magic as well as Disney Cruise
Line over all.
