Old Port Royale Food Court - Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
It has
been forever since we posted and we apologize for that! Things got really busy
with work, school work and moving half way across the country (and the time put
in to get ready for the move), but now everything is back to normal, or as
normal as it can be so we will be posting regularly again.
If you're wondering, we moved from California to Texas, one hot place to another, and are now half way between the two US Disney Parks. We just had to stop at Walt's original park, Disneyland, one last time before we moved away and we tried some new things that we'll share with you in the next couple of weeks! We're also looking forward to starting to share about our Bahamas cruise aboard the Disney Magic from February.
Today,
though, we would like to share with you one of our dining experiences on our
last trip to Disney World. As you know, we technically had two Disney World
trips in February, during one we enjoy time in the parks, and the second was
room only. During our room only portion we enjoyed at stay at the lovely and
tranquil Caribbean Beach Resort. We dined in their food court for dinner one
night, and one the day that we returned home we sampled some of their grab and
go options.
The
resort is spread out, which is why some people don’t really care for it, and
the Food Court is located at Old Port Royale, which also houses the gift shop
and is near the main pool.
The
Food Court area, like the rest of the resort has a Caribbean look and feel to
it. Like other resort food courts there are different ordering areas, each with
its own unique options – so be sure to walk down the line before making a
choice. The choices include Montego’s Deli, Bridgetown Broiler, Old Port Royale
Hamburger Shop, Royale Pizza and Pastry Shop, and Grab and Go.
Since
we were not on the dining plan for this portion of the trip and were paying out
of pocket sampled less than we might have otherwise. We tried the Penne Pasta
with Meatballs from the Pizza Shop and the Baked Chicken from the Broiler Shop.
The
Penne was nicely cooked, not over or under, and there was enough sauce to last throughout
the entire dish. The sauce itself was not super chunky, but it also wasn’t
pureed – we like the consistency, there were small bites of vegetables
throughout the sauce and it had a nice tomato flavor that wasn’t too sweet or
too tart. Two meatballs came with the dish, they were tender and nicely meaty.
A bread stick, which was great for soaking up any extra sauce, was served with
the dish as well.
The
Baked Chicken was half a chicken, which was great since there were three of us
sharing these two meals. It had a jerk marinade, but it wasn’t spicy, just
nicely seasoned. The meat was tender and not over cooked, it was also served
with the skin on which we enjoy. If you don’t like the skin you can just peel
it off and set it aside. The chicken was served with cornbread – yum! – that had
a nice crumb to it and great corn flavor. The dish comes with two sides of your
choice, we decided on mixed vegetables and rice and beans. The vegetables were
a mix of corn and peas and were nicely seasoned. The rice was a white rice, not
over or under cooked, and was topped with black beans that were also nicely
seasoned.
We also
picked up a cupcake for dessert! The cake had a nice crumb to it and was moist.
If we remember correctly this particular cupcake had a slight lemon flavor to
it and was topped with creamy butter cream and rainbow sprinkles.
On the
last day of our trip we had grab and go sandwiches, standard sandwiches,
nothing really to write home about. However, we enjoyed one of the cutest
cupcakes – It was Mickey Mouse. A moist vanilla cupcake topped with vanilla
butter cream, a chocolate Mickey face and two Oreos for Mickey ears. We really
enjoyed the cupcake, but we’ve also enjoyed every cupcake we’re tried at
Disney.
Overall,
we enjoyed our experience with the Old Port Royale Food Court. We recommend
that you check it out for at least once meal, or snack, if you’re staying at
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
