Disney Wonder Dining - Animator's Palate Dinner Review

Before we get to the real post, please check out the new addition to the blog – the announcement at the top and right side of the page.

Yep, that’s right no Disney pictures anymore – but if there are any pictures that interest you, especially these food pics, let us know by email and we’d be happy to share with you!

Time to talk about Disney Cruise Line food! They have some amazing food and there is something to satisfy everyone. We’re going to talk about the food in the order that we ate it – so we’ll cover each restaurant and each meal.

Our first night on the ship we ate at Animator’s Palate.

Animator’s Palate is located all the way at the back of the ship (aft) on deck 4. The restaurant showcases the animation process. At the beginning of the meal the walls as well as the giant paint brushes are all black and white. Throughout the night, though the pictures begin to get color.

Food

To start focaccia bread and garlic dip were brought to the table – yum, bread. Christian especially enjoyed the bread at dinner each night.

All three of us got appetizers, as we did every night!

The kid’s corn chowder had tons of corn and flavor. The soup was naturally slightly sweet because of the corn and it was slightly thinner than what you would expect of a chowder, but Christian LOVED it.

The tomato tarte had a flaky and buttery puff pastry crust with goat cheese in it. It was topped with tomato slices, a dollop of creamy ricotta, and crisp daikon (we think it was daikon.) Overall, a pleasing dish.

The Black Truffle Pasta had a shape like tortellini. The entire dish had great flavor and the pasta was served with a wine cream sauce that had a hint of garlic to it. The pasta was topped with carrots and cabbage which add a nice textural difference.

Now, on to the entrees…

The kid’s beef was incredibly tender and before we could even lift a finger to cut it for Christian our server was there and already cutting it! It came with steamed broccoli which was pretty standard, but tasty, and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside delicious steak fries.

The Herb-crusted Pork Chop – The chop itself was a nice size, not too large, but not small either. The herb crust was full of great flavor and was stuck to the pork with a Dijon glaze. The glaze and the crust both complemented each other and the pork nicely. It was served with a creamy and flavorful tomato risotto. You will also find that many dishes, as this one was, is served with asparagus spears. Neither of us are big fans of asparagus – but we actually enjoyed it each time we encountered them.

The Ginger Beef Tenderloin – The beef was incredibly tender and flavorful and the jus/sauce was a nice compliment to the meat and the potatoes. The beef was served with wasabi mashed potatoes which were creamy and had just the right amount of wasabi so that they had a kick to them but it wasn’t over powering. Bok choy which had a slightly crunch and subtle flavor as well as carrots that were soft, but still had a slight snap to them were flavorful as well.

Mmm… Dessert…

Christian enjoyed a Mickey ice cream bar – your classic vanilla ice cream coated in chocolate.

Crunchy Walnut Cake – The cake had a slightly crunchy base which was topped with chocolate and walnuts. The cake was topped with whipped cream and was paired with raspberry coulis. The cake was crunchy and cream at the same time. Great chocolate and nutty flavor.

White Chocolate Fudge Cheesecake – The base is a chocolate fudge cake that is light and fluffy and had a lot of great chocolate flavor. On top of the fudge cake there is a layer of smooth and creamy white chocolate cheesecake. What’s not to love?! The cake is served with raspberry coulis which has amazing raspberry flavor – it paired incredibly well with the cake and we wish that there had been more of it.

Following dessert be sure to stick around for the show! That’s right, there’s a show – the vests that the servers wear start out black and white like the walls and at this point in the night they are turned around and like the walls they’re full of color. A fan favorite, Mickey Mouse, is there for a brief few moments as well!

Animator’s Palate is a great experience and were lucky enough to eat there five times during our 7 night cruise – we enjoyed three dinners and two breakfasts! It is available on all four ships, so no matter which ship you board for your magical cruise vacation you’ll get to experience this amazing restaurant.
