Fun for Kids on the Disney Dream
Although our time of the Disney Dream was short we still had an amazing time, and both kids had A LOT of fun! Just like the other three Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Dream has so much to offer from every age group. Today, though, we’re going to talk about what all the Disney Dream has for kids to do during your time onboard!
At the end of January, we sailed on the Disney Dream for a 3-night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral. During our two full days on the ship we stopped at Nassau, and we scheduled to dock at Castaway Cay, but were unable to due to weather. Our family decided to not to get off the ship in Nassau, but only because we knew that we would be there again a week later on the Disney Wonder. So, we did not get off the ship at all from the time that we set sail from Port Canaveral until we got back there again – but we still had an amazing time! It also gave us more time to explore the ships since it was such a short cruise, and it gave the kids time to play and make more memories on the ship!
With that little bit of background information on our trip we now have for you all of the fun for kids onboard the Disney Dream!
Characters – The world famous Disney characters can be found throughout the day, and throughout the ship on all three days of a three night cruise. All of the scheduled meet and greets are listed on the Personal Navigator, both the paper version and the app, as well as various screens throughout the ship. There are also special ticketed meet and greets that require advance reservations, but come at no additional cost – these include the Frozen Meet and Greet and the Princess Gathering. Don’t worry if you can’t get tickets for these, there a lots of other character meeting opportunities throughout the cruise. You never know who you might see while you’re walking through the halls.
Deck 4 – The walking/jogging path on deck 4 offers the opportunities for kids to burn off some energy and for families to enjoy time together while taking a family walk or playing shuffleboard!
Youth Clubs – The youth clubs onboard offer a chance for kids to play, create, and make friends while onboard. There is a youth club for each age group – Oceaneer Club/Lab (ages 3-12), Edge (11-14), Vibe (14-17).
Open Houses – We just talked about kids having fun in the youth club for their age group, but they can also explore, hang out, and have fun in the clubs that they’re not quite old enough for, or that they are too old for now, during open houses throughout the cruise. The whole family is welcome at open house! It’s a great time to see what the next club up has to offer! Christian loved going to Edge to play games, and Bella loved running around in the Oceaneer Club and Lab while she could since she is still over a year from being old enough to go to the Club during secured programming.
The Nursery – It’s a Small World Nursery offers a chance for little ones to explore, create, learn, and play with kids their age while their parents are away. The nursery comes at an extra cost, but it is great for those that want to enjoy a few hours away while their little ones play. The nursery is for guests ages 6 months to 3 years old and is currently $9 an hour – advance reservations are highly recommended.
Pools – Who doesn’t love to splash and play in the water! The Mickey and Donald pools offer a chance to cool off and enjoy a movie on Funnel Vision. There is also a family hot tub that looks out over the side of the ship and a small splash pool on deck 12.
AquaDuck – This water coaster at sea offers fun, thrills, a way to cool off, and amazing views!
Mickey Slide – The Mickey Slide is just for kids! This waterslide has twists and turns and makes a splash!
Goofy Golf – Goofy has created a mini golf course on the ship and it offers a lot of fun! Try out Max’s tee for the most direct path to the hole, or use Goofy’s for a more, well, goofy path to the hole.
Crafts – If your kids love to create there are opportunities in the youth clubs and elsewhere throughout the ship. Events are listed on the personal navigator.
Trivia – Trivia can be a lot of fun for the whole family!
Midship Detective Agency – Help solve a mystery while finding close throughout the ship! This interactive game is a lot of fun for the whole family and kids will love figuring out whole the culprit is.
There is so much for kids of all ages to do onboard the Disney Dream!
