Embrace Your Inner Master Builder! A Visit to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Dallas

Everything is Awesome! That’s what they say in the LEGO Movie and that’s how Christian felt about the LEGOLAND Discovery Center this past weekend.

Let’s starting by saying that we’re a LEGO family. We all love to build and create with the colorful bricks. Bella loves her Duplos, and Christian especially loves to build sets, and to build super cool things that come into his head. He is pretty much a master builder like Emmett and his friends.  As I work on this post he is sitting in his room playing with his LEGOS.

This past weekend (August 10) we took a weekend family road trip to the Dallas, Texas area to visit the LEGOLAND Discovery Center at the Grapevine Mills mall in Grapevine, Texas. Christian and Howard enjoyed their LEGO experience while Bella and I walked around the mall. The main reason that all four of us did not visit LEGOLAND is because Bella is still only 15 months old and would not have been able to do much in the Discovery Center. She’s still in that “I like to put everything in my mouth” phase.

With that said, the LEGOLAND website says that the Discovery Center is best for kids ages 3-10. We agree that this age range is perfect. Three is good because kids are done putting stuff in their mouth and can have fun with the play areas and building, and ten is a good end age because the Center is in a mall and there is a lot to do, but it is still only so much.

So, what bricktastic fun awaits you at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center? Read on to find out.

Rides:
Kingdom Quest – Zap skeletons and trolls to save the princess.
Merlin’s Apprentice – Pedal through a potions room to become Merlin’s next apprentice.
LEGO CITY: Forest Ranger Pursuit – Drive a LEGO vehicle in pursuit of robbers!

Build, Play, and More!

As you make your way through LEGOLAND you’ll find rooms full of tables, and even walls in some cases, with LEGOS for building and creating. Parents and kids can build LEGO racers and compete for the best time at LEGO Racers: Build and Test.

There is even a small Duplo area for smaller kids.

In addition to building, there is also the chance to burn off some energy in the LEGO Ninjago themed play area!

Be sure to take a photo with your favorite LEGO minifigures that aren’t so mini – LEGO statues can be found throughout the Center. It’s so cool to see what can be done with LEGO bricks, and one of the coolest things is to see cities made from the bricks. MINILAND allows guests to see what the Dallas/Fort Worth area would look like if you were a giant.

There is also a 4D Movie experience – while we were there it was a LEGO Ninjago 4D Experience.

You can also meet a larger than life during your visit – characters can and will change. During our visit the character meet and greet was with Kai from Ninjago.

We’ve mentioned Ninjago a few times now. It is one of Christian’s favorites things to watch – he has the toys, the games – he loves it. This is the main reason that we visited when he did. There are changing special events at the Discovery Center, and Ninjago was it while we were there. Christian had a great time seeing all of the Ninjago stuff.

Although we did not experience it, there is also Pirate Beach, an outdoor water playground experience!

Shopping! No visit is complete without at least a look through the LEGO Store that serves as the exit to the whole experience. Various building sets, minifigures, blind bags, toys, and even a wall full of pick your own bricks await you here.

From the time you enter the Discovery Center you are immersed in a world of LEGO and it is perfect for LEGO lovers.

Christian and Howard both had a great time. Christian has talked about it every day for the last week since we were there and then further ties it in with things about the LEGO themed birthday party that he had, sets that he has and that he wants, and things that he has built and plans to build with his bricks. It also has him extra excited for our trip to LEGOLAND Florida this coming winter. This kids loves LEGOS.

If you have a LEGO lover in your life and are near the Dallas/Fort Worth Discovery Center, or one of the other ones around the world, we highly recommend that you check it out!
