The Best Thing I Ever Ate - Disney Cruise Line Edition

As you know, we LOVE food – all four of us. In our last post we talked about our favorite things that we’ve eaten at the Walt Disney World Resort. Today we have for you our favorites – or the Best Things We’ve Eaten – from the Disney Cruise Line ships. We (Howard, Christian, and Miriya) have each chosen our favorite thing to eat at breakfast, lunch, and dinner – dinner is further broken down into appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Enjoy!

Breakfast
Christian: Mickey Waffles – Who doesn’t love waffles?! Especially when they’re shaped like Mickey Mouse! Crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside, these waffles can be enjoyed at Cabanas at breakfast time with your choice of toppings. You can also find them as part of the daily sit down breakfast as well.

Howard: Eggs Benedict. Howard is a BIG fan of eggs benedict, and you’ll find the delicious combination of English muffin, poached egg, Canadian bacon, and Hollandaise sauce at the buffet, as well as the sit down restaurant serving breakfast each day. You may also find unique takes on the dish as well.

Miriya: Oatmeal. We know, this may seem like a strange one. We all love oatmeal, and the best part of the oatmeal on the ship is that you can completely customize yours. Available at the buffet, and at Daisy’s on the Wonder, and we imagine the Magic, too, you can add toppings like nuts, fruit, even chocolate. I personally loved getting oatmeal from Daisy’s and having it topped with strawberry puree on our last sailing.

Lunch
Christian: Pizza. What kid doesn’t love pizza, right?! Christian loves to get a slice, or three from the quick service pizza place on the pool deck. (The name varies by ship.) He loves pepperoni and cheese. There are other toppings options as well – each day there is a different daily special.

Howard: Lunch at Cabanas, but especially Asian food. We all love getting something for lunch from the quick service locations by the pool, but we all also really love heading to the buffet to look over all of the choices, and to enjoy a delicious meal from Cabanas. Each day there is a different ethnic cuisine featured near the back of the buffet, and the Asian selections are especially delicious.

Miriya: Shawarma or Chicken Sandwich. Pete’s Boiler Bites offers delicious beef, chicken, and some days, lamb shawarma with your choice of toppings. Delicious. I also love a chicken sandwich from Pete’s topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and ketchup with a side of fries and pineapple slices from Daisy’s.

Appetizer
Christian: Salad. Yes, you read that right, Christian loves salad right now, and that is what he picked. A simple salad topped with Ranch dressing is this four-year old’s favorite appetizer.

Howard: Escargot. Found at Triton’s on the Wonder, Lumiere’s on the Magic, Royal Palace on the Dream, and Royal Court on the Fantasy this delicious combination of snails, garlic butter, and mushrooms served with crusty bread is a favorite.

Miriya: Boucanier Smoked Saucisson, Baked Brie, Brioche and Honey. This is amazing. This dish is a perfect combination of salty, smokey, and sweet. Buttery brioche bread, creamy brie cheese, sweet honey, and slices of smokey saucisson.

Dinner
Christian: Pasta. Christian, like most kids, loves pasta in just about any form. He loves the penne with marinara sauce as well as macaroni and cheese.

Howard: Palo Lamb. The lamb dishes in the main dining rooms are delicious, but the Roasted Rosemary-rubbed Rack of Lamb from Palo may be the best lamb we’ve ever had. It was melt in your mouth tender and served with roasted carrots, olive oil potatoes and rosemary jus.

Miriya: Butternut Agnolotti. I still think about this dish from Palo, and we ate it a year ago. Light agnolotti pasta filled with butternut squash filling and served with a nutty sage-brown butter sauce, Amaretti and buffalo mozzarella. This is perhaps the most delicious dish I’ve ever eaten while traveling. We even tried to make it at home, it was delicious, but not as good.

Dessert
Christian: Carrot Cake. We’re sure you’ve learned from this post at least, that Christian does not always eat what’s expected of a four-year old. He, and all three of us that have sailed before, love the Deconstructed Carrot Cake served at Animator’s Palate. Moist cake, cream cheese frosting cubes, and raspberry yummy-ness.

Howard: Chocolate Soufflé. Once again, Palo does not disappoint. At Palo you order dessert before your main course arrives just in case you want to order one of the two soufflés. The chocolate soufflé comes to your table straight from the oven piping hot. Your server breaks it open, the steam erupts from inside, and it is topped with vanilla ice cream. It is the perfect combination of hot and cold, rich and creamy. If you love chocolate, you’ll love this dish.

Miriya: Bounty Fruit Cobbler.  Howard took the pick of the soufflé, so this is my next favorite dessert after the Palo dish. Juicy seasonal fruit topped with a sweet, cobbler topping served warm and topped with vanilla ice cream. Cobbler is one of my favorite desserts, and this sweet Pirate Night treat did not disappoint.
