Pirate Night on the Disney Magic

It has been a long time since we last posted, we’re really sorry! School, work, half marathon training and a two year old have kept us busy. There’s no excuse, we know, but we finally have post for you again!

Last time we posted we talked about the amazing Cars Land and Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort. Today we’re back to Disney Cruise Line and more about our time aboard the Disney Magic because we have another cruise coming up in just over a month! And there will be so much to share from that sailing as well since it will be on the newly refurbished Disney Wonder!

Since our first cruise was in Alaska there was a Frozen Deck Party and a Frozen themed meal. On our Bahamas Cruise there was Pirate Night. Pirate Night is part of most sailing in the Bahamas and Caribbean.

Pirate Night on our cruise took place on the day that we were in Nassau, fitting, right? On our next cruise it will be on the day that we are at Castaway Cay. We returned to our staterooms to get ready for dinner and found pirate bandanas on the bed. There is one for each person in the stateroom. We tied them on and headed for dinner.

We ate during the main seating at dinner, so all of the real festivities took place after we were done with dinner. At dinner, though the kid’s menu, when placed on a head, made a pirate hat! Christian didn’t want to keep it on, though. The kid’s menu also featured Boson’s Cream of Chicken Soup, The Pirates freshly cut Garden Salad and Totally Carved Sirloin of Beef.

After dinner we made our way up to the pool deck. Normally for the deck parties that take place outside we like to go up to deck 10 and look down at the party on deck 9. It was super windy on this particular night, though, for Miriya and Christian stayed on deck 9 while Howard went up to deck 10 for better photos.

Leading up to the main part of the party there is music, dancing, and games on the huge Funnel Vision screen. And then the time comes! Characters, Mickey and the gang, dressed in pirate gear arrive on stage! But, not so fast ye landlubbers – Captain Hook and his men arrive to try to crash the party. After some more dancing, the day is saved and everyone gets to enjoy fireworks at sea! It is a great little fireworks show!

We’re sure you’re wondering, “Do people dress up for this party?” The answers is yes! You most certainly can dress up as a pirate. There were some people that were just wearing the bandanas, some that had store bought pirate costumes, and some people that had gone all out and really looked the part! We’re talking the people that go to renaissance festivals all the time and really, really look like a pirate. On Pirate Night Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique can also help you get into the pirate spirit it Pirate Packages!

When we returned to our room there were pirate coin chocolates in place of the regular nightly Sleepy chocolates!

Nassau and Castaway Cay are not very far from each other, and because of that the night where we were sailing between the two the ship was going incredibly slowly and was very rocky. None of us get sea sick, however when the ship is really rocky Miriya gets a headache. Headaches led to early bedtimes and a missed buffet, well at least for her. (Me.) Howard, however, got to experience the Pirate Buffet!

What Pirate Buffet?! On Pirate Night the buffet, in this case Cabanas, has a late night Pirate Buffet. It is only open for a short amount of time, on our sailing it was 10:15-11:00pm. If you like food and are up for staying up late, don’t miss out on the buffet!

Buffet offerings included build your own taco and fajitas, burritos, fruit, a baked potato bar, turkey legs, corn bread, banana bread, a carving station, crepes, rice and desserts!

We are all looking forward to our next cruise and enjoying Pirate Night again!
