Rancho Del Zocalo Restaurante
With
Disneyland only a six hour drive from our house we have been there a few times
this year, and we will be going two more times! I know, it’s crazy, but because
we’re annual pass holders now, so we’re getting our money’s worth.
The
dining opportunities in Disneyland are not as numerous as they are at Disney
World. Also, Disneyland doesn’t have the dining plan like Disney World, so you
have to work hard to get your money’s worth when it comes to food inside the
park. On our last trip we only ate one meal per day in the from a park
restaurant, so we had to make that one meal count.
Rancho
Del Zocalo Restaurante is located just inside the large log doors of Fronteirland.
The Mexican restaurant is themed as you would expect – Mexican. Adobe archways,
colorful tiles, fountains, and the wrought-iron sign above the entrance help to
make you feel as if you have been transported.
Before
you enter the main building take a moment to look at the menu posted outside to
make sure that the delicious Mexican food they serve here is what you’re looking
for.
Once
inside the dimly lit restaurant pick one of the three ordering areas. Each area
has different options, so make sure that you get into the right line. One
station features tacos, burritos, and kid’s meals. Another enchiladas, chicken,
and kid’s meals. And the last has salads and desserts.
In
between two the stations you can watch the chef behind a window cooking the
meat – super fresh meat!
This
location has self-serve drink stations, so once you receive your cup fill it up
with the drink of your choice. Kids sized, bottled drinks are also located at
the beverage station.
There
is some indoor seating, but it was so nice out on the day of our visit that we
opted for the outdoor patio. Once outside there is plenty of seating where you
can people watch and hear the runaway mine train from Big Thunder Mountain
Railroad as it passes.
So,
let’s head outside and take a look at the food.
FOOD
On
this visit tried the Burrito Guadalajara, the Soft Taco Monterrey and the kid’s
Bean and Cheese Burrito.
The
Burrito Guadalajara is filled with a slightly spicy mixture of carnitas, beans,
rice, and cheese. The burrito is topped with a tomatillo sauce and sour cream. The
spicy filling is balanced by the cooling sour cream.
The
Soft Tacos Monterrey are available with marinated beef, chicken, carnitas, or
vegetables as the filling. We chose chicken on this occasion. The marinade is
slightly spicy, but can be balanced by the lettuce and tomato that comes on the
side. The chicken itself is juicy.
Both
meals come with Mexican rice and refried beans. The beans are creamy, served
with cheese on top, and are delicious. The Mexican rice is slightly spicy, but
not in an over-powering way. Mixing the rice and beans together provides a
creamy and spicy treat.
The
kid’s burrito is filled with creamy cheese and beans – it is perfect for your
little one or you! The burrito came with a large bowl of plain rice – no need
to worry about something being too spicy for the little ones, carrots and
celery sticks, and a packaged applesauce cup.
Overall
We’re
glad that we chose this quick service location for our dinner during our day at
Disneyland. We walked out full and satisfied – the quality and amount of food
are definitely worth the money.
